Koinonia Farm in Americus, Georgia - 2009
This year the PDCSC took four people who met up with three colleagues from the PSC at UGA at Koinonia Farm where we spent a week in community and service with them. Koinonia is a farm rich in history, social-justice, and sharing the love of God. It was founded in 1942 by Clarence Jordan, author of the Cotton Patch Gospels, and the project Habitat for Humanity grew out of the vision of another Koinonia member. For more information about Koinonia, you can visit their website: koinoniapartners.org
As you'll notice in our photos, we also ran into President Carter at a Baptist Revival nearby.
Humane Borders in Tucson, Arizona - 2008
In 2008, the PDCSC took nine students and a trusty campus minister to Tucson, AZ to work with a program called Humane Borders. Our trip was inspired by the work of Rick Uffort-Chase and his programs designed to provide humanitarian aid in the desert. Humane Borders was co-founded by the Rev. Dr. Robin Hoover, who now acts as the director of the program which has its headquarters at the First Christian Church (DoC) in Tucson. Humane Borders website is available with more information: humaneborders.org
Youth Service Opportunities Project in New York City / Peace March and Vigil in D.C. - 2007
This trip was very similar to our experience with YSOP in Washington D.C. the year before (see below). We worked with a variety of organizations addressing issues of hunger and homelessness. These photos are mostly from the soup kitchens, resource centers, and churches we worked in, but there's a few depicting the fun things we did as well. On the last few days of the trip, several of us rented a van and headed to Washington D.C. for the annual Christian Peace Witness for Iraq. Check out their website for more information: christianpeacewitness.org

Youth Service Opportunities Project in Washington, D.C. - 2006
Our group of eight SFCC and UF students spent the week of March 13-17 working in food pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens. Our base of operations was an Episcopal church in D.C. called the Church of the Epiphany, where YSOP volunteers slept, ate and reflected on our experiences together. The Youth Service Opportunities Project is a Quaker organization that was founded in 1863 in New York City. It brings young people into Washington's most needy communities to help improve the quality of life of our impoverished neighbors and experience the world through service in God's name.

Habitat for Humanity in Charleston, S.C. - 2005
Our group of fifteen college students worked on two Habitat houses, laying the foundation and building the floor for one house, and clearing an empty lot for the second house. We stayed at First Christian Church of Charleston and spent some time visiting the Citadel, the waterfront and the historic city center.
